he properties of diamond coated styli are outstanding. While ruby and most other commonly used styli ball materials are exposed to and suffer from abrasive or adhesive wear, diamond coated balls offer advantage over all these styli ball materials. They will outlast ruby balls in everyday use and therefore pay off as a long term investment. Additionally they are not subject to the adhesion of material particles when scanning for e.g. aluminium components. When it comes to measure modern wear resistant coatings with a high surface hardness, diamond coated styli are essential to the success of the measurement, as ruby ball styli can already suffer massive wear in the first measurement cycle.
